Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?

Updated: Jul 7, 2021

On October 31st, 2008, Bitcoin's white paper was released with an email attached saying, "I've been working on a new electronic cash system that's fully peer-to-peer, with no trusted third party." The author? Satoshi Nakamoto. Who is he? No one knows.

The inception of Bitcoin is like something out of a movie. During the worst American recession in recent years, an anonymous individual or group created a network that could change the world of finance as we know it. Oddly enough, all that is left of Satoshi’s identity are a string of emails.

Gossip about Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity has been ongoing for years. Claims of famous software developers, including those who helped develop Bitcoin, have been brought up in suspicion. A 70-year old engineer by the name of Dorian Nakamoto is continuously brought up as the creator of Bitcoin. However, he has denied being the creator of Bitcoin on several occasions.

The only thing we know for sure is that the real Satoshi Nakamoto took a step back from Bitcoin to pursue other endeavors. His last known email stated, "I’ve moved on to other things. It’s in good hands with Gavin and everyone."
